Golf Club Wedge

FACT

Blade Runner Golf, Inc. has spent two and one half years developing and testing a set of hybrid wedges that would perform as good or better then traditional wedges.

Today more players are replacing their long irons with hybrid clubs. Even the
touring pro's have more hybrid clubs in their bag then ever before.

The reason is simple; hybrid clubs are more forgiving. Our testimonials from many teaching pro's and players ranging from high to low handicaps have stated that the all new Black Magic Wedges are more forgiving then any other club they have ever used.

Lesson 1:

The Bunker Shot

Tips:

  • Set up to the ball with an intended line in your mind. Now pick a spot approximately 3 inches behind the ball.  That is where the leading edge of your club should enter the sand. Play the ball off your right leg and come into the shot a little steeper then normal.  Carry the club through the shot.

Lesson 2:

Chipping off a Tight Lie

Tips:

  • Your hands need to be a little ahead of the ball at impact in order for the leading edge to get under the ball and give it lift. Using a 60' wedge will help because the leading edge will get under the ball easier. Make sure the sole of the club bottoms out with a carry through.

Lesson 3:

The Flop Shot

How to improve your chances of getting close to the pin from a 10 to 20 yard shot that needs to get up fast and land soft.

Tips:

  • If you have the skill and a good lie you can lay the face open with your wedge taking an aggressive swing making sure to go under the ball will get the ball up fast.
  • 60' lob wedge will work without opening the face.
  • Make sure the leading edge gets under the ball.

Lesson 4:

Getting Out of Thick Rough

Tips:

  • Using a lower lofted club such as a 48" pitching wedge and keeping your eyes focused on the ball and not looking up to soon.
  • A utility wood or a hybrid club works better then an iron.
  • You should not need much more then a long putting stroke for this shot.

Lesson 5:

How to Stay on Your Target Line

 Tips:

  • Set up with an intended line in your mind that you want the ball to go out on.
  • Keep you swing very smooth going back and through the ball.
  • Keep the clubface square with your intended line at least 12" past the ball.

Lesson 6:

The Downhill Lie

Tips:

  • You need to adjust your body to the angle of the hill.
  • Your club should come in a little steeper then normal to the ball.
  • Your club should follow the ground angle at least 12" in front of the ball.

Lesson 7:

How to Handle the Pressure Shot

When you are laying two and still have 70 to 100 yards on a par 4 left, how well do you handle the pressure?

Tips:

  • Practice training your mind as much as your mechanics for pressure situations.
  • Don't think of things that haven't happened yet and concentrate only on what you know produces a good shot.
  • Once you choose a club for the distance don't doubt your decision during the swing.

Lesson 8:

The Pitch Shot

Tips:

  • Don't focus on the hazard or the sand trap that you will be going over.
  • Pick a spot on the green that you want the ball to land.
  • Play the ball back in your stance.  A smooth take away with a follow through not breaking your wrist at impact.

Lesson 9:

The Chip Shot

Tips:

  • A Chip Shot will fly lower and run further then a Pitch Shot.
  • Usually from 30-yards in on most conditions, I recommend a hybrid-pitching wedge.
  • Using a club such as a 6 iron or 7 iron is hard to control and will usually hit the ball too far.  Try using a hybrid-pitching wedge.

Lesson 10:

How Well Do You Hit Your Current Clubs

Tips:

  • If you are better with your woods I would stay with a full set of hybrid irons instead of the traditional irons.
  • Usually new golfers are setting up wrong and possibly using the wrong clubs
  • If you are having problems with all your clubs and having that much trouble, I would recommend taking some lessons with a golf professional.
